ARBUS 300: SERVICE LEARNING TEAM PROJECT

Let's Talk About Sex: A Discussion About Sexual Assault and Violence

ABOUT

For ARBUS 300, students are tasks to complete a Service Learning Team Project (SLTP) where students are required to engage in a community initiative. Students inherently gain project management skills along the way as they must work in six-member teams for four months to brainstorm, plan and execute a project.

For my SLTP, I worked in a group of six on a project about informing students on sexual assault. Due to recent ongoings in the news, we felt that it was important to inform university students about sexual assault to raise their knowledge and awareness of the issue and how to combat it. To raise awareness, my group hosted a booth in SLC Vendor Alley on Friday, November 4, 2016 (refer to Figure 1). At our booth we had generation information on sexual assault, referenced on-campus resources and events, and had an interactive quiz to tests students knowledge.

We hosted our booth with the Women's Centre and we gave away rape whistles and candy to those who participated in our event.
